Orly - Sunglasses at Night

Having had a search online I can now tell you that Sunglasses at Night is part of the Orly Flash Glam FX Collection, a range of glitters Orly brought out about 18 months ago.  I just found it in TK Maxx (£4.99, bargain!)and thought it was pretty so had to buy in. :)

 

 

These pictures are two coats over a black base.  It's horrible to photograph and the ones I took just don't do it justice, the bottle shot below gives you a better idea of what it looks like, a sheer grey black base jelly packed full of holographic bar glitter.

 

In regular light it isn't amazing but under bright indoor lighting or in sunshine (I'm guessing, we're about 5 months off seeing sunshine in Glasgow at this time of year) it really comes alive and is super sparkly and holographic.

 

It applies nicely, with the usual notes about trying to avoid any of the bar glitter hanging over the edges of your nails as it'll feel rough, and two coats over an opaque base gave a properly sparkly and rather 3D looking effect.

 

Orly Fowl Play - Take 2

After last week's disaster with Fowl Play it was languishing on the top of my Helmer, pleading with me to give it another go, so I gave in and tried again with it.

 

This time it worked out rather more successfully... (we're ignoring the tip wear, ok?)

 

 

Fowl Play is a lovely dark wine sort of coloured polish packed full of multicoloured flakie pieces.

 

 

 

 

 

 



Nail Disaster 2

After yesterday's post highlighting my failed stamping I decided to go for something simple but a bit sparkly on my nails, just regular old polish to save any more problems and leave me with nice, pretty nails with as little effort as possible.

 

I decided to go for Orly's Fowl Play, a lovely purple based polish jam packed full of flakies.  Unfortunately the nail gods are clearly against me this week...

 

As I was applying oil to my cuticles half of the polish on my index finger seemed to slip right off!  Now, technically I could have repainted the one nail bur Fowl Play is quite a sheer polish and needs 3 good coats to get it fully opaque and I have never successfully repainted just one nail before.  So instead I decided to whip it all off and start again.

 

I can only assume that Fowl Play needing three coats and then a couple of coats of topcoat meant that the polish wasn't perfectly dry as I applied the oil and for some reason it cause the polish to lift right off, whatever happened it was most annoying not least because it was looking pretty nice before the incident and I'd like to have gotten a day's wear out of it!

Orly - Galaxy Girl

I decided to revisit an older polish today, Galaxy Girl is from the Orly Cosmic FX collection and was one of the first polishes I actually sought out online (after seeing it on a load of American blogs and reading about it on MUA) rather than just buying randomly.  I think it was also one of the first proper duochrome polishes I became aware of.

 

The collection was released in the summer of 2010, so 3 years ago now!  It's strange to think I have been obsessing about my nails and tracking down polishes for so long already. :D

 

Galaxy Girl is a deep wine shade which colour shifts through red tones to a blue / purple colour, there's even a bit of turquoise in there if you catch it at the right angle.

 

 

It reminds me a bit of Urban Decay's Bruise - although the Orly is a little more textured and grainy looking, it's a similar colours and colour shift though.  These pictures are three coats of polish.

 

It's a very pretty polish and the sort of thing that is ideal for people wanting something a little different to a flat colour without having to go all out; a sort of grown up, ladylike version of a nail effect or duochrome.

 

Putting it on again has reminded me of the other polishes from the collection so I might have to drag them out to try soon too.
