Models Own - Beetlejuice - Tropical Sun

An older polish today, which might be discontinued as I can't see it for sale on the Models Own web page anymore, Tropical Sun from the Beetlejuice Collection.

 

 

Beetlejuice polishes are supposed to be colour shifting duochromes but this polish isn't really, it's a peach with a golden shimmer but not a true duochrome, in my opinion.

 

It's a great shade for spring or summer, these pictures are three coats as it can be a little sheer.

Models Own Hayley's Comet

I've posted about this polish before when I wore it over black polish but I wanted to try and get it to look more like it does in the bottle with a sort of browny tone to it, so this time I decided to apply it over Beanie by No7 which is a sort of browny taupe colour.

 

Initially, it looked great and definitely gave me the look I wanted however I painted my nails before going out to the cinema and didn't leave enough time for them to dry (mostly due to the fact Beanie has gone all vile and took 3 coats to become even so I was sporting 5 coats of polish in the end) and they got totally massacred. :(

 

I've decided to stick a quick picture up anyway to give you an idea of the colour but excuse the state of the chips and dents, I was tempted to re-do the manicure the next night but I didn't love it enough to do the exact same things again.

 

 

It's a lovely browny wine polish with turquoise shimmer through it, in a lot of lights it looks very blue toned but I've managed to get a couple of (chipped) pictures of the duochrome effect which give you an idea of how it looks on.

 

 

It reminds me a little of Urban Decay Bruise which is handy since it's discontinued and no longer available.  I'll definitely be using this polish again some time soon but I'll make sure I have a better base colour or longer to let it dry before I do!

 

Models Own - Hayley's Comet over Black

My first instinct when I saw Hayley's Comet, the newest addition to Models Own Beetlejuice Collection, was that it would look great over a darker base colour so rather than try it alone I decided to put it over black and see how that looked, first here's a couple of bottle shots for those who may not have seen it in person yet.

 

 

And a little swatch of the polish on it's own, as you can see it's a pinky sort of base chock full of turquoise blue shimmer particles which make it pretty duochrome in the bottle.  The formula is thin, this is not an opaque polish at all, I would guess you'd need a minimum of 3 coats to get good coverage on bare nails.  Unfortunately for me my nails are still so stained that 3 coats probably wouldn't have done it so I decided to go with the black base.

 

 

And here are the results (excuse the messy cuticles and splodges on my fingers I wanted to get pictures before the light went completely):

 

 

Over a dark base the turquoise and blue tones really show through, this is what you see on your nails the majority of the times.

 

 

However at certain angles you can really see the purple colours coming through too.

 

 

At other angles it's almost teal.

 

 

 

This polish reminds me quite a bit of Sally Hansen Turquoise Opal the colour shifts are not quite so varied or strong but there are definite similarities and since Turquoise Opal is so hard to track down it's definitely worth picking Hayley's Comet up if you like the look.

 

I have a feeling this could be a very versatile polish, the look you get over dark colours is totally different to wearing it alone and I already have ideas for other base shades to try it over, over black you lose all the pinky bronze tones so I'd like to try something that picks up on them a bit more too.  Overall another winner from Models Own, I think!

NEW Models Own Beetlejuice - Hayley's Comet.

Another new addition to the gorgeous Beetlejuice range from Models Own; Hayley's Comet was announced on Facebook earlier today and is already available to buy on the MO site. It looks like another cracker based on the bottle shot, I can't wait to see real life swatches of this one.

 

 

I feel a little trip to Boots coming on very soon.  So far there is no official date for it arriving in stores but comments on the Facebook page suggest that a few people have seen it there already so it could be worth a look if you are keen to have it.

Models Own Tropical Sun

This is a pretty polish, but a bit of a let down after Indian Ocean. Tropical Sun is another new Beetlejuice polish from Models Own, a bright shimmering peachy coral colour with golden undertones.




While it's a pretty polish and definitely a nice colour for summer it isn't anything special, in fact it's an almost exact dupe for another Models Own polish, Golden Peach maybe - I foolishly didn't check the name properly when I noticed in Boots. The polishes are so similar in the bottle that I very nearly picked up the wrong one to buy, the small difference seems to be that Tropical Sun has the odd little silver glitter particle through it.




If you're after a golden peach nail polish which is a pretty and wearable summer shade then it's definitely worth the £5 price tag but if you're after an original, duochrome polish this one probably isn't for you.




It does has a nice glow about it and golden shimmer in some lights but it's not a patch on the colour shifting gorgeousness that Indian Ocean is.

Models Own Indian Ocean

Some on the nail swatches of Indian Ocean (over 2 coats of Kiko 339).

I love this polish, it has a very 80s feel to me for some reason but definitely in a good way. I'm not generally a fan of frost finishes, which I would say this is, but over all I adore it as the colour and the duochrome shift is so pretty.

And a few more slightly less crisp ones which show some of the colours, specifically the pink, better:

The pink pulls a lot stronger than I expected from looking at the bottle, although that may be due to wearing it over another colour. In most lights it's flashy, shimmery pink but there are also hints of a goldy tone through it and when not in direct sunlight it's a gorgeous shimmering baby blue.

I can't wait to try it over a darker base colour.

Models Own Beetlejuice Summer Edition

Models Own released three new Beetlejuice polishes for summer recently, Copper Pot, Tropical Sun and Indian Ocean.



I chose two, Tropical Sun, a warm shimmery peach shade, and Indian Ocean an iridescent blue with pinky lilac shimmers through it.





Both colours look gorgeous and definitely have the duochrome, colour shifting look that the previous Beetlejuice polishes have:





They are both very sheer so I think some layering might be in order, I can't wait to try them out though!
