Barry M - Limited Edition - Web Effect (239)

I found this polish in Superdrug today, it's part of a special offer; buy 2 Barry M products get a Special Effects polish free.  The choice was either a red or black Croc Effect or this new (limited edition) Web Effect, in a striking orange shade.

I can't find anything online about it at all, so I am guessing it's fairly new, probably launched in time for Halloween at the end of next month.  Barry M are churning out so many new polishes at the moment they don't seem to be able to keep us up to date with what is coming next!

It says Web Effects 239 on the sticker on the base of the bottle.  Here are a few quick bottle shots:

I'll report back when I've tried it properly but initial tests weren't great, a friend at work lent me a finger to test it out on and it barely showed up at all, at best it looks like a weak, orange version of the Croc Effects, definitely no spider web pattern that I could see.

I'll give it a proper test soon over a light coloured polish and see how it does but my initial trial doesn't leave me full of confidence which is a shame as a spider web effect would be a great addition to my Halloween suited polishes.

Have you seen this polish yet?  Better yet, have you tried it and if so how did you get on?

  1. I bought this today as well, I can't get it to work yet. Just looks like the croc effect :S. I'll keep trying, as I love the idea behind it!

    1. I think that might be what's happened, the girl said they only got it in last night so it's definitely new, maybe they were supposed to wait another few days before putting it out. There isn't even anything on Barry M's site or FB page which is unusual.

  3. Its awful, tried it over light peach and black, just looks like the croc effect, over black it turned like brown leather. I love barry m products but soooo disapointed in this product.

    1. I just commented on your blog, Becca! There was nothing at all online when I posted this hence why I decided to stick some info up without swatches.

    1. It's not looking great so far, I think it's just a gimmicky Croc Effect in orange for Halloween, I've not got it to look web like at all. :(

  6. Really gutted about this product. I got all hyped about it because I love Halloween stuff. I've ended up with a croc effect that looks brown over black polish. Probably going to use it over white, but still, I wanted spider webs! D:

  7. Yeah, it's definitely not what I was hoping for! I guess making spiders webs is harder than Barry M thought. ;)

    1. I'd be a lot more annoyed if I didn't love the Gelly Hi Shine's I bought to get it free!

  9. I've had no luck at all, tried it out on a range of colours. Mine won't give any effect let alone a croc one. Really gutted about this, might have to exchange it for another croc one! Wasted £5.98 just to get this; but guess my other ones are good

  10. I think everyone is having the same problem! I love the Gelly Hi Shines I bought to get it free so I don't mind too much but it is annoying if you specifically spend extra to get a freebie and then it's rubbish!

  11. Paint it on diagonally rather than bottom to top of nail.. Will probably come out bit more webby ??

    1. Unfortunately no matter what you do with it the best you get is the sort of spotted crackle effect of the croc polishes, there's nothing remotely webby about the shapes it make, no matter what direction you look at it. :(
